Abroad in Nerja
Brian Binley
In mid-February,
on his way to the annual dinner of the Conservatives Abroad in Nerja,
Brian Binley dropped by to be interviewed by J. Mendez in his Latin
Spice programme.
Brian
is an avid fan and a shareholder of Northampton Town FC, a member
of the County Cricket Club and a regular playing member of the Collingtree
Golf Club.
Brian joined
the Party as a Young Conservative when he was 17.
He subsequently
became a qualified Conservative Agent in 1966, working firstly
for the Central Office as Young Conservative Organiser for the West
Country thereafter transferring to the Kidderminster Conservative
Association some three years later as Agent, a position he held
until 1977.
He was
elected as Member of Parliament in May 2005.
Sir Jeremy Hanley
Last year, on
the 13th May 2006, RSA had the visit of Sir Jeremy Hanley.
Sir Jeremy, a chartered accountant by profession, has carried on
a wide-ranging commercial life since retiring from politics in 1997.
Previously he was Member of Parliament for Richmond & Barnes
from 1983-97, and a Government Minister for over 7 years.
His
posts included: Cabinet Minister without Portfolio whilst Chairman
Of the Conservative Party, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs
(responsible for Hong Kong and the Middle East), Minister of State
for the Armed Forces at the Ministry of Defence, and Under-Secretary
of State for Northern Ireland as Minister for Health & Social
Services, Minister for Agriculture and for Education and Political
Development.
He has been
a Privy Counsellor since 1994 and a Knight Commander of the Order
of St Michael & St George since 1997. He is a Freeman of the
City of London and Master of the Worshipful Company of Chartered
Accountants.
The Conservatives
Abroad expand their activities to Nerja with the formation of a
new branch under the direction of Alex Radford.
The Conservatives Abroad currently operate in Mijas and the Marbella
areas and the formation of this new branch strategically enhances
their communications on the Costa del Sol.

in Nerja was the guest of honour at the group's inaugural dinner.
