The Conservatives Abroad in Nerja

Brian Binley

In mid-February, on his way to the annual dinner of the Conservatives Abroad in Nerja, Brian Binley dropped by to be interviewed by J. Mendez in his Latin Spice programme.

Brian is an avid fan and a shareholder of Northampton Town FC, a member of the County Cricket Club and a regular playing member of the Collingtree Golf Club.

Brian joined the Party as a Young Conservative when he was 17.
He subsequently became a qualified Conservative Agent in 1966, working firstly
for the Central Office as Young Conservative Organiser for the West Country thereafter transferring to the Kidderminster Conservative Association some three years later as Agent, a position he held until 1977.
He was elected as Member of Parliament in May 2005.

Sir Jeremy Hanley

Last year, on the 13th May 2006, RSA had the visit of Sir Jeremy Hanley.
Sir Jeremy, a chartered accountant by profession, has carried on a wide-ranging commercial life since retiring from politics in 1997. Previously he was Member of Parliament for Richmond & Barnes from 1983-97, and a Government Minister for over 7 years.

His posts included: Cabinet Minister without Portfolio whilst Chairman Of the Conservative Party, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (responsible for Hong Kong and the Middle East), Minister of State for the Armed Forces at the Ministry of Defence, and Under-Secretary of State for Northern Ireland as Minister for Health & Social Services, Minister for Agriculture and for Education and Political Development.

The Conservatives Abroad expand their activities to Nerja with the formation of a new branch under the direction of Alex Radford.
The Conservatives Abroad currently operate in Mijas and the Marbella areas and the formation of this new branch strategically enhances their communications on the Costa del Sol.

Sir Jeremy Hanley in Nerja was the guest of honour at the group's inaugural dinner.
