Gerado Nuñez, here interviewed by Mark Shurey, is a guitar player almost without comparison.
His
mild mannered and completely unassuming figure is a refreshing oddity in the world of art and music. Gerardo Musically innovative and technically perfect (a word not used lightly), Gerardo seems happy spending as much time imparting his knowledge, teaching young players and supporting up and coming artists as he does working to further his own career.

His world is 100 per cent dedicated to the only thing of importance to a true musician.... making music and it is this that Gerardo Nunez and Mark Shurey shapes his life.
This selflessness and dedication to his art is maybe why Gerardo is relatively unknown. But this takes nothing away from his enormous talent for Gerardo is probably one of the best guitar players walking on the planet today.

Gerardo Nuñez was born in Jerez de la Frontera and after learning to play as a child, toured with Paco Cepero, one of the great gypsy players. Not content with just playing flamenco, as a teenager he listened to jazz, latin, classical and American rock music too. His music is an eclectic mix of flamenco rhythm, huge sweeping almost neo-classical themes, jazz improvisation and Gypsy fire played at times with an intensity that would have made Paganini faint.

Gerardo works hard. He has nine solo studio albums to his name and two recordings with singers. His latest album "Andando el tiempo" (walking on time) was one of the best solo albums produced last year. His current tour has been a crazy schedule playing in Japan, Germany, Switzerland, London Sadlers Wells and the Queen Elizabeth Hall, New York, Pennsylvania, back to Spain again while simultaneously arranging his teaching courses. We were lucky to see him in a concert that somehow squeezed into his schedule in the Cultural Centre in Nerja last month. The la-minute standing ovation said it all... .breathtaking! For a man so busy he seemed relaxed, friendly and enormously humble.
